A Shepherd's Heart

Refer to the key Scriptures and the Core Teaching Thread and the resource article for this week as you answer these questions with others.

When we look at the character qualities of God's shepherds (1 Timothy 3 and Titus 3) and the style of leadership of God's shepherds (1 Peter 5:1-4; Psalm 23; John 10), the expectations seem almost impossible.

Should we allow men to grow, develop, and overcome some immaturity and weakness yet still see them as qualified to serve as shepherds (elders) in God's church once their lives show that maturity and character?

  • Who are some of God's greatest leaders of all time?
  • What weaknesses and failures did they have to overcome?
  • How did they overcome these problems?
  • Did these temporarily or permanently disqualify them from serving?
  • What should we learn about this in terms of our giving men have an opportunity to overcome their past?
What can you do to better show your support for our church leaders?

What can you do to encourage those who are praying about serving as our shepherds?
