Don't you hate to wait? Most of us do. While we may complain about how fast paced our lives are, we complain even more about having to wait. Yet, it seems that no matter where we go, we find ourselves waiting ... in a line, for an order, at a light, for an elevator, or for something else. So when we hear Jesus call to wait for power from on high, we almost wince.
Wait! Wait? Isn't waiting a waste of time?
Waiting on God isn't wasted time! In fact, it's focused time. It's preparation time! It's anticipation time. Most of all, it's expectation time!
We are urged to wait expectantly on the Lord throughout the Psalms (27:14; 33:30-22; 38:15; 130:5-6). We are inspired by the image of waiting on the Lord in Isaiah 40:31 (NASB):
Yet those who wait for the LORD Will again new strength;
They will bmount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
Our Shepherds often quote Psalm 5:3 (NIV) as they pray over folks:
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation.
Bottom line, we are not going to be all God wants us to be without His power ... and God often chooses to release His power when we "wait" on him in expectant prayer. So, let's ...
- Seek God in prayer expectantly looking forward to what He will do in our lives (Acts 4:23-31).
- Seek God's power to be released into the life of our church family and in the lives of those we love (Ephesians 1:17-20; 3:14-21).
