Go Fish #6: Don't Muddy Up the Water
As we come to the Lord's Table today, we remember the incredible gift of love that Jesus gave us in His death, the hard days for Jesus' followers while Jesus was buried in the tomb, and His amazing victory for in His resurrection.
These three events are the core of the Gospel: Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and on the third day He was raised just as the Scriptures had promised. We celebrated these three events when we were baptized into Christ, trusting in what He did in those three acts of grace to save us.
Today as we gather around the Lord's Table, we also remember that Jesus died for the whole world:
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:1-2).
So as we share in this Supper together, we are also committing to make a difference in the world by sharing Jesus — and this is especially important as we send out our Spring Break campaigners this Sunday!
